The Bywater and Marigny Neighbourhoods: Krystal and Brett New Orleans Wedding

Mar 10, 2020

There’s a good reason the Bywater and Marigny neighbourhoods in New Orleans are so loved by our brides and grooms! These side-by-side neighbourhoods offer up vibrant art and tasty food scenes, as well as an eclectic mix of live music, outdoor markets, and well-known local digs. It’s one of our favorite places to shoot weddings! We were super excited when Krystal and Brett chose Hotel Peter and Paul and the Marigny Opera House as the venues for their wedding and flew in from Brooklyn, NY with a handful of their closest family and friends for the big day.

Krystal and Brett got ready at hotel Peter and Paul—a beautifully renovated hotel in the Bywater area filled with natural light and subtle colors; it’s also one of the most popular venues in the Bywater and Marigny neighbourhoods of New Orleans. P&P was the perfect backdrop for Krystal’s stunning, timeless Alexandra Grecco wedding dress, with its lace, floral-patterned sleeves and open back. She could have been a movie star from days gone by—so elegant and regal—but totally comfortable with the oohs and ahhs surrounding her.

Brett got ready in a different room of the hotel, which always helps create ease and simplicity with the timeline and flow of the day. After getting ready, we headed downstairs for their first look, which was absolutely beautiful and so emotional. Krystal shed a few tears and Brett couldn’t stop staring at his beautiful bride-to-be. With good reason—look at how gorgeous she was!

Once they had their first look and spent a few moments together just soaking it all in and getting ready for the day ahead, we all had some fun shooting images around the hotel before heading over to the Marigny Opera House where their intimate wedding and reception would be held. Krystal and Brett’s ceremony was electric. They shared so many moments of big, carefree laughter and raw, heartfelt tears during their vows and the love between them was positively crackling. Love those ceremonies where our faces hurt from smiling so hard and this was definitely one for the books.

We absolutely LOVE intimate weddings like this, where the goal is to keep things laid back and chill. Their ceremony was heartfelt and real and they topped it off with a second line down the streets of the Marigny neighbourhood—one of our favorite New Orleans’ wedding traditions—which was a blast for everyone who participated.

We came back to the ceremony space being transformed into a gorgeously- decorated and intricately-designed seated dinner, which was followed by dancing through the night.

This is why we love photographing weddings! Even if we regularly shoot in the same favorite places of brides and grooms—such as the Bywater and Marigny neighbourhoods of New Orleans—it always ends up being an individual, uniquely-tailored experience based on each couples’ personalities. New Orleans weddings never disappoint and Krystal and Brett’s was simply amazing.
