“There is something in the New York air that makes sleep useless.” – Simone de Beauvoir

We flew up to New York recently and had the wonderful opportunity to meet and peer into the lives of a couple of clients that we have the privilege of working with within the next year. One of these amazing couples was Amy and Ian. When we mentioned the possibility of doing a session in NYC to Amy, she replied with, “The thought of getting to shoot a session in the Big Apple just made me smile ear to ear!  I can only imagine the possibilities!” One very important detail about these two is that they don’t actually live in New York. In fact, they reside about 2 hours from the city. After trying to match up our crazy work schedules, there was one time slot left: at sunrise, just a few hours before we fly back home. Amy and Ian jumped on board so quickly, and we highly anticipated all seeing the Highline in Chelsea for the first time that morning.

There is one word that totally sums up this amazing duo: TRUST. The act of putting complete confidence and hope in someone or something and letting go of your worries. We had been watching the weather closely, and as time went on, the weather became more rainy and cold. Personally, we feel the more unique your environment, the more different your photos will be. Amy and Ian trusted us completely when we suggested rainy day photos would be fun, and fun they were. And their chemistry was amazing, to say the least.

We all met bright and early at 6:30am and walked over to the Highline, umbrellas and coats in tow. We walked from one end of the Highline to the other, admiring the city views, mural artwork and the buildings hiding in the cloudy skies. We cut up, shared stories, and made friends with these two incredible people. After some time in the wind and misty rain, we felt it was time for a warm cup of coffee! So the search began for a coffee shop that was open so early and stumbled into Under Line Coffee, drying off and warming up inside.

Amy and Ian, you both set a fine example of what trust is. Trust your vendors. Trust your photographers. Their suggestions may surprise you. We hope we meet more folks like yourselves in the future and can’t wait for your wedding in May!
